5th of November, I arrive at Mumbai early in the morning, the weather is sunny and hot, after a refreshing breakfast at the hotel it’s time to go see the sights.
The name Mumbai is said to have derived from the local deity Mumbai Devi. It is India’s financial and industrial capital and is popularly known as Bollywood being second only to Hollywood in number of films produced.
The tour includes the the Gateway of India, the triumphal arch built in 1911 to commemorate the arrival of King George and Queen Mary, The Prince of Wales museum built in Indo - Saracenic style, Hanging Gardens and Kamla Nehru Park, which offer a panoramic view of Marine Drive and are situated on the slopes of Malabar Hill.
I end the day with a drive on the Marina Beach, through the Crawford Market and Flora Fountain areas.
The next day I’m off to see the famous Elephant Caves. A boat takes me across the harbour to the world famous, 1200 years old Elephanta Caves. Known for its rock carvings, the temple cave is dedicated to Lord Shiva representing his various forms. The famous sculpture signifying the trinity of the Creator, the Preserver and the Destroyer is located here.
